Description
Chateau Duhart Milon, 4eme Grand Cru Classe, Pauillac, Bordeaux, 2019
Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, hand harvested from a single 76ha vineyard with soil consisting of fine gravel & sand over limestone. Vine age average is 30 years. Aged 14 months in oak with 50% new wood.
Producer Tasting Note:
The wine has a deep, dark colour. The initial nose offers beautiful spicy notes that are quite characteristic of our terroir. This is followed by a blend of aromas of red and black fruit with a terrific freshness. On the palate, there is an immediate richness. The wine develops perfectly, without ever becoming aggressive. It is dense and harmonious. Retro-olfaction offers notes of chocolate and roasted coffee. The finish is long and remains very precise throughout.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Cabernet expression strong. Plenty of blackcurrant, graphite and liquorice notes with a pervading freshness. Precise and harmonious on the palate, the tannins ripe and rounded, the finish long and clean."
17+/20 points, James Lawther MW, JANCISROBINSON.COM June 2020
"The 2019 Duhart-Milon is showing beautifully, mingling aromas of cassis and wild berries with notions of violets, cedar wood, orange rind, licorice and spice box in a perfumed bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, it's charming and refined, with a deep core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids. This château is going from strength to strength."
94/100 points, William Kelley, WINE ADVOCATE, April 2022
As at all the Domaines Barons de Rothschild properties, winemaking and élevage are very classical, with regular rackings and the majority of the barriques derived from the in-house cooperage (emphasizing lightly toasted Allier and Nevers oak seasoned for 24 months), and as at Lafite, Cabernet is very much in the ascendant here with some years reaching up to 80%. Since 1962, Duhart-Milon has been owned by neighbouring property, First Growth, Chateau Lafite Rothschild.
Food Match: Duhart-Milon Pauillac pairs well with classic red meat dishes like roasted or grilled beef, lamb, duck, and veal, as well as game meats like venison. It also complements earthy dishes with mushrooms or truffles, hearty pasta, and aged, hard cheeses such as Gouda or Tomme.
