Description

"Telegramme", Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, Châteauneuf du Pape, Southern Rhone, France, 2023

Grapes: A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre and 4% Cinsault. Hand picked. In vats for 10 months, then in 30hl French oak foudres for a further 7 months. Bottled, without fining or filtration, after 15-16 months

Producer Tasting Note:

Impressive fragrance and freshness are married to deep mulberries and ripe strawberries, and all this is wrapped around an ample tannin structure on the medium-bodied palate. Plenty of drive at the long, quite compact finish. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape seriously dominated by Grenache, which confers very singular suppleness and roundness. Best savoured young.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Impressive fragrance and freshness are married to deep mulberries and ripe strawberries, and all this is wrapped around an ample tannin structure on the medium-bodied palate. Plenty of drive at the long, quite compact finish."

95/100 points, James Suckling, April 2025

"The 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Télégramme shows well, offering up ripe strawberry, raspberry and hints of licorice. Perfumed and pretty, the 2023 is a medium- to full-bodied, casual Télégramme that’s smoothly structured through polished tannins, finalizing with delicacy and finesse on the savory dissolve. Give it two more years in bottle before pulling the cork"

90/100 points, Nicolas Greinacher, VINOUS, October 2025

"A lovely, seductive version, with full ripeness yet balanced restraint to the round, warm notes of red licorice and cherry, flecked with lavender and vanilla bean. A stream of graphite matches the ripeness, making for a perfumed, incense-driven, tangy finish, with dried herbs, turmeric and earth. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2038."

93/100 points, Kristen Biele, WINE SPECTATOR,  February 2026

Estate: Owned by the Brunier family for more than 100 years, the wine is the second label of Vieux Télégraphe and is produced using fruit from younger vines (under 30 years old) or from older vines situated away from the Plateaux of La Crau & Piedlong

Food Match: Drink with roasted or grilled red meats
