Description
De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon, Riverina, New South Wales, Australia, Half Bottle, 2021
Grape: 100% Semillon, 85% matured in new & used French oak barrels, 45g/l residual sugar
Producer Tasting Note:
Vibrant and seductive with layers of flavour, a medley of candied citrus fruit, honey drenched apricots with nougat nutty vanillin oak lusciously textured yet with enough acidity to balance the sweetness.
First produced by Darren de Bortoli in 1982, Noble One is one of the most awarded Australian wines in history! Fruit is sourced from the same vineyards each year where "Botrytis" is produced with a consistently high quality. The "Noble Rot" affected grapes at De Bortoli owned vineyards at Bilbul, along with another grower's vineyard at Yenda, are utilised by winemaker Julie Mortlock to make this outstanding dessert wine.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Expressive aromas of honey, caramel, demerara, toffee, pear and mango. Very sweet, with a bright acidity and persistent finish."
92/100 points (Silver Medal), DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS, January 2025
"Racy and vibrant, this Semillon offers thrilling acidity alongside vivid notes of lime, orange peel, crystallised ginger, apricot, and bitter orange. A beautifully poised sweet wine with energy and elegance."
GOLD MEDAL, INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE, 2025
"A rich golden straw hue in the glass. Heady on the nose, mango, cumquat and cooking toffee aromatics. A symphony of golden tropical fruits with balancing citrus peel freshness at the top end. Deeper down we find butterscotch and figs all being lifted by powerfully focused acidity and a pithy sense of grip that ensures prodigious length and a finish that astounds with its remarkable sense of vitality."
97/100 points, The Real Review (Australia), March 2025
"Fresh Kensington mango cheek, lemon verbena and yellow wattle blooming in abundance. Candied pineapple and fresh apricot. Tangerine skin, lemon curd and yuzu. Lusciously sweet and supremely well balanced by nougatine oak and almond shell. Orange blossom honey sweetness with lovely, grainy, pithy grip and a dried apple flesh. A school toffee nostalgia coupled with the wisdom that this wine will live for decades. An icon."
96/100 points. Halliday Wine Companion (Australia), Jan 2025
Also awarded 7 x "TROPHY" and 11 x "GOLD" at various Australian wine shows in 2024/2025. It doesn't get better than this wine to satisfy a sweet tooth!
Food Match: Pair with fruit desserts and cheeses or, for a savoury match, try Peking duck or freshly sauteed scallops with truffle and pear.
