Description

Il Falchetto Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Alta Langa DOCG, Piedmont, Italy, 2021

Grape: 100% Chardonnay, sand/limestone/marl soils, hand harvested, Metodo Classico (traditional bottle fermentation) with 36 months' ageing on lees, residual sugar <6 g/L

Producer Tasting Note:

Pale straw yellow colour with golden hues, bubbles are fine and persistent. The mouth is fresh, crispy and mineral. The nose has floral and herbaceous hints, bread and yeasts flavours. A wine with interesting personality and gastronomic character, ideal for all meals.

The Alta Langa DOCG originates in 149 villages on the hills of the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo on the right bank of the River Tanaro in the southern Piedmont region.

Pietro Forno, coming from a family of winegrowers and wine lovers, began producing and selling the first bottles of his Moscato in 1940 in the village of Santo Stefano Belbo (Province of Cuneo).

Today, the winery is managed by the brothers Giorgio, Fabrizio and Adriano Forno, Pietro’s nephews. Tenuta Il Falchetto has six estates: three in the province of Cuneo in Santo Stefano Belbo and Castiglione Tinella and three in the province of Asti in Agliano Terme and in Calosso d’Asti.

From a long tradition of Chardonnay grape cultivation and winemaking, started in 1988, the Forno family wanted to create an high quality traditional method sparkling wine unique in the Langhe region. So, after 30 years, the first vintage of their Alta Langa DOCG Extra Brut was born, together with a small production “riserva” bottling with 60 months ageing. The latest project from the winery, using only Pinot Noir grapes, is their Alta Langa DOCG Rosé Pas Dosé.

Food Match: Traditional Piedmont dishes, particularly those made with the Alba white truffle, from cheese fondue to vegetable flans to ravioli del plin (pinched stuffed pasta) and the famous Piedmont fritto misto (fried food), and also works with Parmigiano Reggiano or Roccaverano goat cheese, grilled vegetables and fish.
