Description
Lawson`s Dry Hills Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand, 2025
Grape: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fruit sourced from 3 vineyards (one in the Awatere Valley and two in the Wairau Valley), sustainable farming, mostly unoaked (5% portion was wild yeast fermented in old French oak barriques)
Producer Tasting Note:
Aromas of passionfruit, honeysuckle, lemon curd and fresh-cut herbs leap from the glass. The palate is vibrant and concentrated, showcasing citrus and passionfruit flavours layered with fresh herbaceous undertones. Well-balanced, with a lovely structure and a long, lingering finish. The 2025 season gave good flowering and a warm, dry summer, meaning harvesting was possible at optimal ripeness.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"A classic wine from a great producer. Aromas and flavours of fresh citrus and white fleshed orchard stone fruits, cape gooseberry and mango, citrus peel and golden kiwifruit. Crisp, saline and dry on the palate with a backbone of acidity and vibrant core flavours that mirror the bouquet. Plush, refreshing and tasty with best drinking from 2025 through 2028+"
94/100 points, Cameron Douglas MS, October 2025
"Grapefruit, gooseberries and a grassy touch lead on the nose. A flash of stone fruit on the palate quickly gives way to the vibrant acidity that defines this sauvignon blanc. Drink now." James Suckling, January 2026
Also awarded Silver Medal The Global Masters, 2025 and Gold Medal New Zealand International Wine Show, 2025
The Estate: Lawson’s Dry Hills is a "carbon zero" boutique winery, close to Blenheim in New Zealand’s Marlborough region. It is part of the Family of Twelve, a fraternity of twelve of New Zealand’s most prestigious and enduring artisanal wineries. The original company vineyard was planted in 1982 by Ross and Barbara Lawson, who launched the Lawson’s Dry Hills label some ten years later, in 1992. Today, the company’s wines range from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to Riesling and Gewurztraminer and are all made from fruit grown in the Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. These different regions and carefully selected vineyard sites provide varying characteristics derived from the different soils and microclimates, giving many options when it comes to blending to that much-anticipated Lawson’s style. The dedicated bunch of people that make up the small team here are relaxed in company, yet passionate about their wines. They are very ‘hands on’, living and breathing every part of the viticultural and winemaking process and love to share their award-winning wines with others.
