Description

Muscat De Beaumes De Venise Solera, Domaine de Coyeux, Southern Rhone, France, NV, Half Bottle

Grape: 100% Muscat Blanc A Petits Grains, 50 year old vines, hand harvested, fermented in steel & concrete vats, unoaked, 103g/L residual sugar

Producer Tasting Note:

Classic sweet Muscat, with a lot of freshness, full of fruit and flower aromas. Great balance. Notes of candied citrus fruits, acacia honey, accompanied by a subtle oxidative touch of fresh walnut. Perfect balance between freshness and indulgence. Based around the 2008 vintage with the solera being refreshed with younger, more recent wines. This cuvée has an ageing potential of up to 10 years.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Mellow golden-brown colour. Delicious depths on the nose – much more than your standard Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. An inviting balance of fresh tropical fruits and notes of dried apple peel and sultanas. Nutty and toasty, but underneath there’s the orange blossom of the variety. Sweet but fresh. An intriguing combination on the palate of that oxidised nuttiness, lush, sweet fruits and freshness. Alcohol well integrated. Long, evolving finish. Good Value" Drink 2024-2028

16.5/20 points, Oliver Coleman, JancisRobinson.com, October 2024

"Attractive nose with dried apricots, candied orange, hint of toffee and oolong tea. Creamy and dense and moderately sweet with fine texture and good length. Flavorful and generous. Drink now."

James Suckling, May 2024

The origin of the vineyards of Beaumes-de-Venise is very old; the history of its wines can be traced back to 600 years before Christ, when a Greek community moved into the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The first vines from the Domaine de Coyeux date back to the 1950s.

The estate was taken over in 2021 by Isabelle & Arnaud Strasser who, since 2016, already owned three other properties in Provence, one in the Luberon, Tavel & Chateauneuf du Pape. The 50 ha estate will be converted to organic culture in the near future.

Food Match: Creamy Gâteau de Saint-Honore dessert, or mild, cream cheeses like triple-crème brie, or Mascarpone.
