Nikka Yoichi 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, Japan

Colour: Amber Nose: Slight smokiness, but not too dominant under the enormous sweetness of the sherry cask maturation. Smoky grilled bacon. Eucalyptus & menthol. Vanilla, citrus fruit & honey. Taste: Opens with liquorice, caramel and some jam, plus lemon, charred wood and coffee/mocha. Finish: Charred wood tones and peat fire dominate at first, before nuances of cocoa and jam provide a soft, sweet mouthfeel.

The sherry cask storage gives the 12-year-old Yoichi a much more complex aroma structure than the younger 10 yr old version. Especially the fusion of salty-peaty components and wonderful, balanced sherry aromas make this whisky irresistible.

Classic expression of twelve-year-old Hokkaido single malt. This version includes a significant portion of whisky aged in sherry casks. Following the growing success of Japanese whiskies, Nikka discontinued this version in the mid-2010s along with other whiskies with an age count in the range in favour of "No age statement" bottlings that allow greater flexibility in inventory management. These old versions, which were already very popular at the time they were available, are all the more coveted.

Crafted using methods from the past, such as direct coal heating, the Yoichi single malt truly captures the authentic character of its exceptional location, with its refined coastal and peat notes.
