Description

Vitikultur Moser Gruner Veltliner von der Terrassen, Kremstal, Austria, 2023

Grape: 100% Gruner Veltliner, organic & biodynamic, sustainable farming, hand harvested, unoaked

Producer Tasting Note:

A bright citrus and herbaceous nose with subtle mineral notes. The fruit remains bright and vivacious on the palate with fresh fennel as well, a lovely prickle of citrus acidity, minerality and some of the characteristic Grüner Veltliner white pepper character on the finish.

The grapes are biodynamically produced, and come mainly from the Wolfsgraben vineyard, with it's south-exposed terraces and cool micro-climate. Wolfsgraben means 'canyon of the wolves'. The grapes were harvested in late September. The grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and pressed after 3 to 4 hours of skin contact - and fermented in stainless steel.

The Estate:

The Vitikultur Moser estate was originally founded by the famous Austrian wine producing pioneer, Lenz Moser. Sepp Moser, Lenz Moser's son, began operating under his own name in 1987, and handed over the direction of this family-owned estate to his own son Nikolaus in the year 2000. This family estate comprises of 50 ha of vineyards in two prominent wine regions; Kremstal (22 ha) and Neusiedlersee (28 ha). In the Kremstal, Nikolaus produces an international range of varieties as well as the ever more important local varieties of Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. The reds are produced on the gravelly soils of the warm southern Neusiederslee village of Apetlon. All Vitikultur Moser wines have been organic (and all estate wines biodynamic) since 2007.

Food Match: Sommeliers love Gruner! It's such a versatile grape. Try with classic Austrian Wiener Schnitzel, Seafood & Shellfish, Asparagus, Asian & Fusion Cuisine. Also a good pairing for Moroccan cuisine with a hint of sweetness (such as dried apricots and nuts) which balances the wine's savoury, smoky finish.
