Description
12 x Château Kirwan 3eme Cru Classe Margaux, Bordeaux, France, 2008
A rare opportunity to purchase a full case (12x75cl) which will be delivered with its original wooden box. A great 18th Birthday present...or keep for a 21st.
Grapes: A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Petit Verdot.
Producer Tasting Note:
The wine was bottled at the end of June 2010, after 19 months of ageing in barrels (including 45% new barrels). Today, it demonstrates an excellent aromatic complexity with a mélange of fruits – black currents and ripe cherries – and sweet spices, like vanilla. The attack is fresh, slightly minty, and smooth. The tannins appear progressively to give the wine body and support a long, slightly woody finish. If this bouquet already piques your curiosity, we can satisfy your taste buds, but rest assured that this wine will only improve in the coming years, for a pleasure that grows with time.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Made in the tell-tale Kirwan style (medium to full-bodied, lots of muscle, concentration, and thickness), the dense purple-colored 2008 offers sweet blackberry and cassis fruit along with a layered mouthfeel. A sleeper of the vintage, this 2008 will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring. It has the potential to keep for two decades." Drink 2013-2033
90/100 points, Robert M. Parker Jr., WINE ADVOCATE, May 2011
"Dark fruit aromatics, blackberry leaf, liqourice and violet flowers, this maintains a fresh grip through the palate, tannins musclar and a little austere but this is ready to drink after a few hours in a carafe. Perfect for sharing around a table, with liliting acidity that makes it a great food wine. At this point they switched to blending after three months ageing in barrel, and introduced co-innoculation in the cellar, both techniques favoured by consultant Eric Boissenot, but still using the former cellar, meaning larger vats than today. Harvest began October 1, and this was the first year where harvesting took place according to soil types. 45% new oak for ageing, 30hl/h yield."
93/100 points, Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux, September 2024
Food Match: Pairs exceptionally well with hearty, classic dishes like Beef Wellington (filet de bœuf en croûte), roasted duck with cherries, or herb-crusted roasted lamb<
