Description

Champagne Gremillet Cuvée Rosé d'Assemblage Brut, Champagne, France, NV

Grapes: A blend of 70% Pinot Noir & 30% Chardonnay, sustainable farming, 20% reserve wine, 10% red wine, 9g/L residual sugar (dry)

Producer Tasting Note:

A splendid salmon-pink colour with coppery highlights reveals brilliance and luminosity. The nose is powerful and generous, distilling the entire palette of sun-drenched red and black fruits: strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, morello cherry, and redcurrant. The palate is full, round, and fleshy, in a perfect balance of flavours and smoothness. The infinite richness of the fruit is magnified by the fine bubbles. The delight and freshness of its aromas are matched only by its elegance.

The Pinot Noir grapes are pressed for up to 2 hours to extract the jus de presse, then vinified and blended to give this delicate and delicious rosé Champagne. Champagne must age for a minimum of 15 months before release. Gremillet age all their Rosé Champagnes for a minimum of 22 months to ensure that the wines are not too young and have married all the elements.

Critic's Tasting Note:

"A lovely pale pink wine. The nose offers aromas of small red fruits and candy, very inviting. The palate is round, tangy, very fresh, and showcases the same quality of fruit. A rosé full of conviviality."

88/100 points, Gilbert & Gaillard, January 2024

"Medium deep pink colour and an energetic mousse. The nose displays ripe red fruit, pink grape, ginger, clove and roasted almond. Rounded palate balanced by a mild creaminess and fresh acidity, sweet red berry flavours with mild spiciness and a fresh finish with fine length."

90/100 points, Andreas Larsson - Tasted, October 2024

The Estate:

The Gremillet estate was founded by Jean-Michel Gremillet in 1979 when he inherited a small plot of vines from his mother, Lulu. Today, the house possesses 55 hectares of vineyards and is situated in a small village 45 kilometres from Troyes - the historic capital of Champagne - and 180 kilometres south of Reims. The vines lie on steep, sun-drenched hillsides in Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. Pinot Noir is king here, and constitutes around 80% of Gremillet’s plantings, with the remainder dedicated to Chardonnay, ideal for creating a classic, baked biscuit, rich, fruit-flavoured Champagne. Gremillet work to high standards at every stage of the Champagne making process, including ageing their NV cuvées for two years instead of the required 15 months, and their vintage cuvées for a minimum of five years instead of three.

Food Match: Delicious chilled as an aperitif but also a fine food match with roast duck, grilled prawns and fresh berry desserts (Perfect with strawberry charlotte)
