Description

Château Chantalouette, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, 2016, Half Bottle

Grapes: A blend of 72% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc, 90ha estate (half under vine), sandy gravel soil, fermented in thermo-regulated concrete vats, matured in a mixture of oak barrels and large vatsP

Producer Tasting Note:

The wine is red with purple highlights. The intense nose reveals red berry aromas, delicately complemented by spice and vanilla notes. A very supple attack leads into a well-balanced and complex mid-palate on fresh red fruit flavours, especially cherry. Notes of spice and cocoa appear with airing, sustained by velvety, well-integrated tannins, ushering in a long and
harmonious finish. A round and fruit-forward wine, it's charming, elegant, and approachable from a young age.

Château Chantalouette is the second wine of Château de Sales. Owned by the de Lambert family for over five centuries, the 116 acre estate is the largest in the appellation.

Traditional practices in the vineyard, such as horse-ploughing and hand-harvesting, followed by meticulous winemaking, lead to beautifully crafted wines that are expressive of their terroir. Traditional racking and light egg white fining help to preserve the brightness of the fruit.

Critic's Tasting Note:

"Nose: blackberries, red fruit, smoke, damp earth, mushroom, tobacco. Palate: blackberries, licorice, tobacco, full body, balanced, plush tannins, finishes with bitter/tangy raspberries"

92/100 points, CELLAR TRACKER, October 2024

Food Match: Drink with a wide range of red and white meats.
