Grapes: 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, 22ha vineyard on clay/gravel soils, hand harvested, aged 18 months in French oak barrels (70% new)

Since 1990, under the same ownership as Chateau Lafite Rothschild. The Pomerol appellation stretches on a plateau on the right bank of the Dordogne river, about 40km north east of Bordeaux. In Pomerol, Merlot is king. The characteristics of Pomerol’s clay soil give to this varietal an expression like nowhere else in the world.

Chateau Tasting Note:

The wine presents a dark colour. The nose is intense with blackberries and fresh blackcurrants. Spicy, grilled, truffle notes develop after the array of flavours found on the attack. Dense, ample, elegant structure. Delicate ripe tannins coat the palate despite their power, further enhancing the wine’s balance. Truffle and cocoa notes on the finish.

"The 2005 L’Evangile’s gorgeous aromatics consist of spring flowers, black raspberries, licorice, truffle and graphite. The wine is full-bodied, rich, still youthful and backward, with sweet tannin and a long, layered, full-bodied mouthfeel. This stunner is capable of another two to three decades of longevity. "Rich, concentrated, dense, dark and powerful, this is still stubbornly hanging on to its youth. With coaxing, and time, you find a lush, and opulent wine filled with dark cocoa, licorice, smoky plums, ripe black cherries, truffle and espresso. The intense, long finish has real staying power. Give this 3-5 years in the cellar and it should really start to sing!"
