Description

Chateau Saint-Georges Cote Pavie Grand Cru Classe, Saint Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France, 2016

Grapes: A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, 5.5ha vineyard on clay/limestone soil, manual harvest and sorting, 40hl/ha yield, destemmed and whole berry fermentation in steel vats, 12-14 months' ageing in French oak barrels (1/3 new)

Producer Tasting Note:

The Saint-Georges Côte Pavie 2016 reveals a complex bouquet combining red fruits, notes of undergrowth and spicy touches. On the palate, the balance is remarkable between power and finesse, supported by precise tannins and a beautiful freshness. A vintage of elegance and depth, faithful to the Saint-Émilion terroir.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Once again, this estate enjoys great success with this superb 2016 vintage, as its deep ruby colour suggests. Attractive, fresh, and complex, its bouquet evokes a basketful of small red fruits underscored by discreetly vanilla-infused oak. After a fresh attack, the palate displays exceptional breadth, with a dense texture supported by silky tannins, and a remarkably long finish."  Drink Now-2035

Remarkable Wine 2-star (Out of 3). Also awarded "Coup de Cœur" (Editor's Choice), HACHETTE WINE GUIDE, 2020

"Located right next to Château Pavie, this is a muscular wine that takes its time. Confident, rich texture that is so signature of 2016, with a fairly heavy oak grilling, giving a strong tar, cocoa bean and liqourice accent to the brambled blackberry and black cherry fruits, along with dried roses on the finish. Aged in a mix of 225l and 400l barrels. Consultants Stephane Derenoncourt and Hannah Fiegenschuh."  Drink 2025-2040

93/100 points, Jane Anson, INSIDE BORDEAUX, August 2022

Estate: This classified growth estate of 5.7 hectares (5 ha located on the clay-limestone slopes of Pavie and 50 ares adjoining Ausone) was a dependency of the Abbey of La Sauve-Majeure in the Middle Ages (when it took its name of Saint-Georges), then the property of the de Grailly family from the 17th century onwards. Acquired in 1873 by the Masson family, originally from Corrèze, it is now managed by the fifth generation.

Food Match: Chateau St. Georges Cote Pavie is best paired with all types of classic meat dishes: veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, chicken; roasted, braised or grilled. It is also good when matched with Asian dishes, mushrooms, pasta, and rich fish courses like tuna and salmon. Serve between 16°C and 18°C
