Description

Chateau Teynac, Saint Julien, Bordeaux, France, 2019

Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot from vines with an average age of 40 years, gravel soil, hand picked, 12-14 months ageing in French oak barrels (30% new)

Producer Tasting Note:

Teynac has an intense colour with a nose of ripe fruit, fresh floral notes and is slightly spicy with a touch of cherry pit. This wine is characterised by its fruit and freshness. The mouth has structured tannins giving a smooth and silky textured Saint Julien wine offering blackcurrant and cassis flavours which may be consumed now, or given a few more years' cellaring. Long and rich with expressive fruit on the finish.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Shows very pretty, ripe and clean fruit with blackcurrant and plum character. Medium body and round, fine-grained tannins." Janes Suckling, June 2020

"The elegance of Saint-Julien is apparent in this non-classified wine from a 27-acre, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant vineyard. It has ripe black fruits but also restrained tannins and structure. Drink from 2026"

93/100 points, WINE ENTHUSIAST, October 2023

"An impeccable presentation for this very attractive wine, which combines elegance and power.Initially quite discreet, the bouquet intensifies to create a beautifully complex whole (fresh red fruits, sweet spices). The palate is ample, dense, and full-bodied, supported by fine, silky tannins that inspire confidence in the potential of this Saint-Julien."  Drink 2027-2034

2 Stars (Remarkable Wine), Le Guide Hachette des Vins, 2023

Established in 1990 by the Pairault family, the chateau is situated on the Beychevelle plateau (gravel & clay) and is surrounded by classed growth properties. Growing in size from the original 4.5ha, a further 8ha have been added in small, fragmented parcels over the following 30 years. The wines are characterised by density, complexity and a distinct elegance

Food Match: Drink with the classic Sunday roast beef, lamb with garlic & rosemary, or Portobello mushrooms.
