Description

Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru, Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot, Burgundy, France, 2013

Grape: 100% Chardonnay

The five Grand Cru of Montrachet are the most southerly of the Cote de Beaune, located between Meursault (north) and Santenay (south), and Chevalier-Montrachet has thin, stony soils over a marl/limestone base. "Les Demoiselles" vineyard, itself, has a very chalky subsoil with south-easterly exposure.

Domaine des Héritiers vineyards are those owned by the original Louis Jadot family (from 1794 onwards to the 1880s, then bought back again in 1913) and the 2013 "Les Demoiselles" is the first vintage for new Jadot technical director, Frédéric Barnier, taking over from the renowned, 40-vintage stalwart, Jacques Lardière.

Chevalier-Montrachet "Les Demoiselles" is produced only with Chardonnay grapes, fermented and aged 15-18 months in oak barrels before bottling. This vinification highlights the unique qualities inherent to the fruit of this great vineyard.

This wine is often described as one of the most beautiful white wines in the world, giving extraordinary power, elegance and concentration with amazing complexity. A very long-lived wine.

Critic's Tasting Note:

"This is a beautiful wine with elegant fruits that reflect a strong sense of minerality. It is crisp, although that is just a surface quality to a wine that has such depth. Toast flavors round out the intense fruits, giving a light spice and butter to this powerful wine. Drink from 2020."

97/100 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, January 2015

Food Match: Can be paired with foie gras, caviar, Epoisses & Roquefort cheeses, grilled lobster & langoustine, fish or chicken in a cream sauce
