Tasting note: dark, intense ruby colour with a shiny black heart. On the nose and palate the wine shows concentrated blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry and blueberry fruit, layered with mineral, smoky and fresh mint notes from the gravelly, clay‑mixed soils. The 63% Cabernet gives spicy definition while the tannins remain elegant, leading to a delicate, balanced finish and excellent ageing potential.

Chateau note: an initial fresh, sweet and fruity attack evolves into soft, high‑end tannins with a smoky, licorice‑tinged finish that brings the fruit back to the fore. The overall impression is intensity, finesse and distinction.

Critics' notes: Robert M. Parker Jr. (The Wine Advocate) praised the 2006 as "round, luscious, sexy, and exceptionally complex," awarding 92/100 and forecasting further improvement with 2–4 years' bottle age and long‑term keeping potential. Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) noted tobacco, cigar box, red berries, cassis, earth and smoke, calling it medium/full bodied with dusty tannins and scoring 91/100.
