Grape: 100% Riesling, 15-35 year old vines on loess/clay soil with quartzite pebbles, hand harvested, 45hl/ha yield, 49g/L residual sugar (off dry style), unoaked

Producer Tasting Note:

A fruity and elegant Riesling Kabinett with particularly herbaceous aromas, which unfold in beautiful harmony with a fine-bred and piquant fruit sweetness.

Incredibly spicy, the mineral base is immediately apparent, at the same time there is this fantastic variety of fruit aromas, which is characterised by ripe grapefruit, lime peel and a hint of peach. With aeration, hot stones. On the palate, the wine is incredibly juicy and dense, the fresh acidity provides traction, the sweetness is wonderfully creamy, apricot, peach and orange are quickly there, then again this fine minerality. The Krötenpfuhl is incredibly densely woven and long.

The Dönnhoffs use the grapes from the upper part of the Krötenpfuhl vineyard for the Große Gewächs (Grand Cru) wine, the lower part goes into this Kabinett wine.

"The 2023 Riesling Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Kabinett comes from the site’s plateau of quartzite and gravel. A subtle flint on the nose still veils the lemon underneath. The palate is gently sweet and juicy, like a tart apple, edged with ripe lemon and tangerine. This light wine is absolutely mouthwatering and dangerously easy to drink. (Medium)" Drink 2028-2050
