Grape: 100% Zeleni Silvanec (Sylvaner), hand picked, fermented in stainless steel tanks, aged on fine lees for 5 months.
One of the rare locations outside of Alsace and Germany successfully growing Sylvaner, Doppler's fine example has a bright, but pale lemon yellow colour with green tinges. The bouquet offers white flowers, herbal notes of thyme & sage with a hint of green pepper. The palate has flavours of gooseberry and green apple. Try it as an alternative to a Loire Sauvignon Blanc.
Vineyards, situated just north of the town of Maribor, in the Scajerska Slovenija (Styria) region of Podravje, were originally established by Austrian, Benedictine monks in 1815 and the property was later puchased by Ivan Doppler in 1938. With the third generation now running the vineyards and winery, Doppler produces hand-made wines with an emphasis on traditional, regional varieties.
