Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand, 2024

Grape: 100% Pinot Noir, 5.9ha vineyard, vines planted in 2001, organic/biodynamic, handpicked from the Calvert vineyard (deep silt soil), indigenous yeast fermentation, destemmed fruit with 25% whole bunch, 16 months' ageing in French oak barrels (28% new), bottled unfined & unfiltered.

The Calvert wines normally exhibit a firm texture and expansive mouthfeel with floral aromatics and ripe dark fruits. The tannins are fine and focused with a distinct minerality.

Winemaker's Tasting Note:

As is so often the case with Calvert, what impresses most is the wine’s subtlety and precision; patience is rewarded as the site methodically reveals itself. Earthy, dark cherry and plum aromas expand outward, becoming delicately floral; rose and violet infused. The mineral, graphite-textured palate builds - ever so subtly - to a rich, leather-bound cocoa finish. A most urbane expression of this vineyard and its deep clay soils

Critic's Tasting Note:

"The purity and integrity of the fruit on the nose is impressive, with ripe strawberries, orange peel and hints of white pepper and dried herbs. It’s medium-bodied with crunchy fruit, lovely fruit tannins and a vivid finish. A mix of Dijon clones. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
