Description
Guidalberto Tenuta San Guido, Toscana IGT, Italy, 2024
Grapes: A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon with 48% Merlot, limestone/clay soil rich in marl & pebbles, hand harvested, aged 20-25 months in mostly French (40% new) and American oak
First produced in 2000, and now in its 25th vintage, Tenuta San Guido's Bolgheri "Bordeaux blend" is made for drinking younger than Sassicaia, but still with the potential for long ageing. Embracing a younger style that seeks fragrance and sweetness on the palate, characteristics that Merlot can offer. It's a full-bodied wine with flavours of black plums, blackberries, ground cinnamon, juniper berries, sandalwood and dark chocolate. Velvety textured tannins, finishing dry. A food wine.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot, the Guidalberto 2024 shows a noticeably more lifted, perfumed, intense aromatics than its big brother Sassicaia, with fragrant rose petals, pressed violets, and wild jasmine overlaid with red and black berry fruits, black cherry and a brûléed savoury brown breakfast toast nuance. The palate is sleek, fresh, and piercing, deliciously bright and mouth-wateringly tart with red cherry rock candy, cranberry, dried herbs, mint leaf, and suave tight grained chalky tannins on the finish. A delightfully exotic, elegant, stylish Guidalberto with weightless concentration and a finessed intensity." Drink from 2027 to 2040+

"Aromas of currants, cedar, mahogany, bark and orange peel say this is distinctly Tuscan. It’s medium-bodied with softness and freshness that bring you back for more. Very soft yet fine tannins. Juicy and subtle. So delicious now. Drink or hold"
95/100 points, James Suckling, February 2026
"The Tenuta San Guido 2024 Guidalberto shows spice and drive through the mid-palate, opening with fragrant notes of cherry shaped by its equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is lively and punchy in character with lifted aromatics and fine definition, supported by bright acidity that keeps the palate fresh and agile. Tannins show a touch of dryness, adding grip and structure, while the overall impression remains energetic and easy to appreciate." Drink 2026-2032

The label depicts the Oratory of San Guido and the wine is named after the family ancestor Guidalberto della Gherardesca, an agricultural pioneer in the Bolgheri area.
