Nikka Whisky From the Barrel, Japan 50cl

The nose has flowers, fruit and spice with the full-bodied palate having sweet notes of toffee/caramel and spicy vanilla from the barrel ageing.

The complex formula is created by blending more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies. After blending, the whisky is filled into used barrels and matured for another few months. Ex Bourbon, sherry and refill hogsheads are used for ageing the whisky. This "marriage" process harmonizes all components in the formula, resulting in a mellow taste. Bottling is controlled at 51.4% ABV, almost equivalent to 90 British proof, that Nikka blenders determined through repeated experiments to achieve the ideal taste profile.

"WOW beautifully crafted. Light ash, faint peat, and cedar align to present a profile that's sweet, enticing, and embraced by just enough smoke. Honey, toffee, slivered almond, faint bread note. Long finish, notably viscous mouthfeel."

Japanese whisky producer Nikka was founded in 1934 and has become Japan`s second largest distiller, producing a large range of single malts and blended whiskies between its two distilleries - Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Nikka from the Barrel is big-boned and bursting with character. Not averse to a drop of water, either. First released in 1985, Nikka's "From the barrel" is a real star, winning top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010.
