Description

Rippa Dorii Verdejo, Rueda, Castilla y Leon, Spain, 2024

Grape: 100% Verdejo, certified organic, sustainable farming, partial barrel fermentation

Producer Tasting Note:

Aromas of stone fruit backed by fennel and mountain herbs. The palate is complex with ripe citrus and white peach notes, bright balancing acidity, and a broad, textured mouthfeel - long and lightly saline on the finish.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Typical notes of white almond and fennel herbs from verdejo, complemented by a hint of kiwi and citrus. Medium-bodied on the palate, it displays creamy fine lees and a fresh, medium-high acidity. Good balance throughout, with a medium-length finish. Vegan. Drink now."

90/100 points, James Suckling, July 2025

"Colour ,bright yellow. Aroma ,powerful, ripe fruit, spicy. Flavour ,rich, long, fine bitter notes, good acidity, balanced."

90/100 points, GUIA PENIN, March 2025

Winemaking: Grapes are sourced from organically-cultivated Verdejo vineyards at higher altitudes across different parts of the Rueda appellation, where poor, gravelly soils and outcrops of limestone dominate. Some low-yielding, old vine (over 60yrs) fruit is included. The grapes are harvested overnight and once in the winery the temperature is further reduced, and the grapes gently pressed with their skins at cool temperatures, for the best transfer of aromas. Natural clarification at cold temperatures is followed by spontaneous fermentation (without filtering or manipulation). Part of the fermentation takes place in barrel before the final blending of the wine.

Estate: Rippa Dorii is an Ontañón Family project, producing wines from two of Spain's most important wine regions that run alongside the River Duero - Ribera del Duero and Rueda. The name Rippa Dorii is the latin form of ‘Ribera del Duero’ – inspiration for the name and label came from the nearby 13th century chapel of Santa Maria de Ripa Dorii, in Torrecilla de la Abadesa.

Food Match: Enjoy with pork or fish, and creamy pasta dishes
