Grapes: A blend of Gamay, Grolleau, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, 4-6 months' maturation in vats, unoaked, 21g/L residual sugar (medium dry)

Producer Tasting Note:

Colour: bright, pale pink. Aromas: candy, fresh fruit (raspberry and strawberry sorbet). Palate: subtle and tasty, with good balance between sweetness and vivacity.

Estate: Dating back to the 15th century, Château La Varière is one of the most reputed estates in Anjou with 150ha of vineyards planted across the region. The property is characterised by a quest for the best wines and terroirs: great wines are made from the finest parcels. Emphasis is placed on the soil, the exposure and the climate of each plot and winemaker, David Grellier, makes a full range of wines in the appellations of Anjou Rouge, Anjou-Villages Brissac, Anjou Blanc, Coteaux de l’ Aubance, Coteaux du Layon, Bonnezeaux, and Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru. The winery is recognised for its Cabernet Franc reds and dessert wines made from Chenin Blanc.

Food Match: As an aperitif, with appetisers, quiche, pizza, barbecues and fruity desserts
