Description

Taylor's 1994 Vintage Port

Producer Tasting Note:

Deep crimson just beginning to display some maturity on the rim. The explosive fruitiness of early youth is now more restrained as the wine begins to settle into maturity but the nose is still driven by impressive focused blackberry and blackcurrant aromas set off by the classic Taylor scent of violets. Full bodied and well structured palate delivering rich blackberry and cassis flavours with spicy, figgy, liquorice flavours evolving on the long and sumptuous finish.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"When tasting young vintage ports, Taylor is always the most backward. Yet potentially, it has the capability to be the most majestic. This classically made, opaque purple-colored wine is crammed with black fruits (blueberries and cassis). It reveals high tannin and a reserved style, but it is enormously constituted with massive body, a formidable mid-palate, and exceptional length. It is a young, rich, powerful Taylor that will require 10-15 years of aging. Compared to the more flashy, forward style of the 1992, the 1994 has more in common with such vintages as 1977 and 1970. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2045"

97/100 points, Robert M. Parker Jr., WINE ADVOCATE, October 1996

"Very dark colour with a deep core and touch of lightening at the rim. Ripe cherry fruit and pleasant spices develop very well in the glass, before ripe plums, nougat, cardamom and cloves emerge. On the palate it's complex - dark forest berry jam, nougat and coffee in particular shine through. Elegant, dense and freshly structured, this is a convincing wine with a great future ahead of it."

98/100 points, FALSTAFF, February 2016

Also, James Suckling (Wine Spectator) awarded it a perfect 100/100 points.
