Grape: Shiraz, only produced in the best vintages from Wynn's highest rated vineyards.

2016 Vintage Conditions:

A very warm and dry spring led to early flowering, veraison and harvest. The warm November temperatures were ideal for good berry set, necessitating extensive green harvest (thinning) for quality. The grape ripening months of February and March were influenced by a cold water “upwelling” off the coast, but overall, it was a warmer- than-average Coonawarra vintage. We describe our 2016 wines as being at the “fuller” end of our long-term Wynns Coonawarra flavour and style spectrum.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Deep crimson. Intense blackberry pastille, violet aromas with underlying bramble, spicy notes. Richly concentrated wine with deep set inky, blackberry, blackcurrant fruits, persistent fine loose knit chocolaty, ground coffee textures and underlying savoury vanilla cedar nuances. Finishes graphite firm with long fine chocolaty plume. Generous and supple with lovely density, richness and vigour. Should develop extremely well, Keep and cellar. 2024-2040"

"The apex of Wynns' Shiraz releases. Deeply coloured, it is still too young to enjoy, the oak, and the tannins in particular, are very obvious. A mere 5 more years will give you a wine to be enjoyed for the next 30+ years. In the meantime French oak, glorious black fruits and modest alcohol may be too much for some."

"Deep red colour with a trace of purple. The bouquet is well-composed and harmonised, with subtle spice, savoury nuances uppermost, full-body and good density. A hint of raspberry. Rich and fleshy, a bigger style for modern-day Wynns. Lovely balance and elegance, long finish, with masses of supple, fine-grained tannins. Great now but will cellar long-term." Drink 2021-2041
