Description

Ca' Rugate "Monte Fiorentine" Soave Classico, Veneto, Italy, 2022

Grapes: A blend of 90% Garganega and 10% Trebbiano di Soave, organic, volcanic soil, 54 year old vines, unoaked

Producer Tasting Note:

Rich and golden in colour, a wonderful example of a Soave Classico, with beautiful layering of exotic, tropical fruits and a touch of minerality. Full and rich in flavour, this is a structured wine with a fresh, mineral finish.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"White flowers, almond blossom, lemon blossom. So smooth it's almost waxy, with a lanolin herbal, 'soapy' bitterness. Cobnuts and chamomile. The acidity is relatively soft but the wine has textural structure and there is no hurry to drink this. Signs are that it will likely become more honeyed and mineral-smoky over the next couple of years."  Drink 2025-2030

16.5+/20 points, Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, February 2025

"Intense and elegant nose, ripe melon, peach, pineapple. Mouth rich, intense, good complexity."

86/100 points, Decanter World Wine Awards, 2025

Also awarded 91/100 points, Luca Maroni, July 2024

Winemaking: The fruit for this wine comes from the six hectare Monte Fiorentine vineyard in Brognoligo di Monteforte d'Alpone. The volcanic origin of the land results in limestone and basalt characteristics, in which the Garganega grapes flourish. The vines yield on average 90 to100 quintals per hectare and are harvested when the grapes have reached optimum maturity at the end of September. The grapes were carefully sorted. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures of between 16 to 18°C for 10 to 15 days, maintaining the freshness and aromatic qualities of the Garganega variety.

Estate: The family business has been handed down through the generations of the Tessari family since the early 1900s. The estate was renamed Ca'Rugate in 1986, taking its name from the volcanic hills where the vineyards are located. Now run by the fourth generation, Michele has brought with him a lively, passionate and entrepreneurial spirit. Considerable expansion has taken place in recent years with investment in a new technologically advanced cellar and expansion into the Valpolicella area with the purchase of vineyards in the hilly zone of Montecchia di Crosara. The estate now covers 90 hectares of vineyard. Ca'Rugate has been awarded the prestigious 'Tre Bicchieri' award rating from Gambero Rosso multiple times, making it one of the most awarded producers in the competition and has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the "Top Five producers of High-End Soave".

Food Match: Best enjoyed cool with full flavoured dishes in creamy sauces, soups, young cheeses and fish dishes
