Grape: 100% Chardonnay, 1 ha vineyard first planted in 1968, 46 year old vines, 58 hl/ha yield, oaked

The nose exhibits classic Chablis notes of crushed stones, with lime fruit and other creamy citrus aromas. There's steely, gunflint minerality with lime & peach flavours on the palate. This is intense and harmonious with fine purity of fruit and a long, crisp finish.

The Roy family have been vignerons in the village of Fontenay, just to the north of Chablis, for over 200 years. Today Claude Roy, together with his daughter Karine and nephew David, farm 20 hectares of vines on the right bank of the River Serein. They are one of the largest owners of the grands crus including a magnificent 3.5 hectare plot in Bougros. They have only recently begun to bottle a significant proportion of their harvest, having previously sold a majority in bulk to the negociants.

Vaulorent, bordering Les Preuses, is the only 1er Cru in Chablis located on the  Grand Cru hill, allowing it to achieve high quality while offering very fair prices.

Food Match: Try with grilled sole or sea bass, sushi or sashimi, roast chicken or veal, hard cheeses like Comté and Beaufort. Give it 5 years before consuming. If you can wait, there are 10-15 years of potential ageing for full flavour/texture development.
