Grape: 100% Chardonnay, machine picked, 1.5ha vineyard on the right bank of the Seresin river, 46 year old vines, 56hl/ha yield

The Fourchaume premier cru is a powerful wine, and very mineral. Very good length in the mouth.

Critic's Tasting Note:

"Interesting aroma, just a little bit sweaty/smoky – perhaps a little flinty. The same on the palate and yet with the creamy texture of this producer's wines. A little sour on the finish, but distinctive." (Drink 2024–2028)

The Roy family have been vignerons in the village of Fontenay, just to the north of Chablis, for over 200 years. Today Claude Roy, together with his daughter Karine and nephew David, farm 20 hectares of vines on the right bank of the River Serein. They are one of the largest owners of the grands crus including a magnificent 3.5 hectare plot in Bougros. They have only recently begun to bottle a significant proportion of their harvest, having previously sold a majority in bulk to the negociants.

Food Match: Excellent as an aperitif with prawns, or smoked salmon toasts. It pairs with all types of white meat, fish in general and poultry in cream, a carpaccio of scallops, veal stew, a good lobster or langoustine, sweetbreads, marinated salmon, grilled sole. Try it with goat’s cheese, and the cheeses of the Savoie region: Abondance, Beaufort, and Comté.
