Grape: 100% Chardonnay, oaked, vineyard planted 1988

With notes of honeydew melon, and a richly mineral seashell note from the limestone soil, this is a fresher style of Meursault more akin to a Puligny or Chablis, but still having the expected butter and hazelnut character from the barrel ageing.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"The 2020 Meursault Blagny 1er Cru has a vibrant bouquet with orange sorbet and limoncello scents - quite vibrant and feisty. The palate is well balanced, the 25% new oak nearly integrated, although here, the finish just needs to muster more amplitude and mineralité because at the moment it is being outclassed by the single Village Crus."

Located just around the corner from Dominique Lafon in Meursault, Michel Bouzereau has been fashioning very sound, well-crafted and downright delicious wines in recent years. Jean-Baptiste took over from his father Michel in the 1990s and has now installed himself in a brand new cellar next to his house in the centre of Meursault. Like many domaines, Jean-Baptiste is now bottling later than in the past, giving many of the wines fifteen to eighteen months ageing in cask rather than twelve. This is now one of the appellation’s top domaines.
