Description
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut Champagne, France, NV, Half Bottle
"Yellow Label" is blended from over 50 wines taken from different Crus (vineyards) and several vintages to produce the house style – all from the three Champagne grape varieties, and is usually around 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier – depending on the wine. Around 35% of the blend utilises older, reserve wines with the rest being from the latest vintage. Minimum of 3 years in VCP's cellars before release to the market.
Producer Tasting Note:
Golden-Yellow colour with tiny bubbles. An aromatic profile dominated by notes of white and yellow fruits like pear, apple, and peach. Hints of citrus fruits like mandarin and grapefruit blend harmoniously with gourmand aromas of brioche. The flavours of pear, peach, and pastry are enhanced by a touch of dried fruit from ageing on the lees.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Born of passion and perseverance, this Champagne reminds us that life is made up of precious moments. Every bottle, every bubble, every sip is a fragment of Madame Clicquot’s dream—a bold woman, a widow, who left an indelible mark on this House, defined by her courage and spirit of innovation. This wine is like a stroll through the generous terroir of the Champagne region, where time—that capricious entity—and tradition—that vigilant guardian—conspire to offer a moment of grace.
On the nose, it reveals aromas of crisp apples, juicy pears, warm brioche, and subtle hazelnuts, all dancing against a backdrop of caressing vanilla. As for the palate, it fulfills this aromatic promise with a firm, gentle texture and an air of sovereign elegance. One can almost hear the hushed laughter of a 19th-century bourgeois drawing room, or the lively chatter of a modern-day dinner party, where this Champagne serves as an understated yet essential protagonist.
Serve at 10°C (50°F). It is perfect as an apéritif, or paired with warm oysters, pan-seared foie gras, a smoked salmon bagel, porcini mushroom risotto, turbot in a cream sauce, lobster Thermidor, or salmon tartare."
92/100 points, BACCHUS (Canada), December 2024
"Firm and delicious, showing sliced apples and green pears with some flint and bread dough. It’s medium-bodied with fine bubbles and a crisp, delicious finish. Gives a dry impression. Drink now"
92/100 points, James Suckling, July 2025
"Lemony richness on the nose, a struck match character that falls in with lemon vanilla note. Toffee apple allure on the palate with chalky coolness & savoury nutty finish"
94/100 points, Anna Krebiehl MW, DECANTER MAGAZINE
To fully appreciate the bubbles, subtleties and aromas of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, serve chilled in a tulip glass filled around two thirds full at around six degrees centigrade – just a touch warmer than your fridge. Then enjoy!
This Champagne is a great choice as a reception drink on arrival, for the wedding toast or for matching with food.
Food Match: Grilled salmon, veal in tuna sauce, rich canapés (Foie gras on toast points), goat's cheese or vegetable tarts
